The Kipawa Drifters

Alas the Drifters are no more, the group was a major part in the character building of many teenagers both from Kipawa and as far away as Pennsylvania, Montreal, Toronto and even New Zealand. My Jacket and my badge are still some of my most treasured possessions but it is the knowledge I gained that still comes in handy on a day to day basis. That knowledge was not about J-Strokes or Back-Paddle! or the many knots I learned then forgot to tie, it was the knowledge of people and watching children turn into adults, of watching people share in the misery of cold wet weather for days on end, the collapsing of tents in the rain. The knowledge that giving a couple of blueberries to someone who has portaged a canoe for 1Km sometimes provides the energy they need to take those last couple of steps to the next lake (spiritual energy). For all my brothers and sisters in arms, that stumble across this site, I salute you and would wash any one of your panikins in exchange for your desert. |
